Emergency Earthquake Response in Syria - Humanitarian Project
Syria.
In the wake of the seismic events that unfolded in southern
and western Türkiye (Turkey) and western Syria, MHF, in collaboration with the
organization Haiva Sura Kurd, initiated a humanitarian response to address the
immediate needs of the affected population. The earthquakes, with magnitudes of
7.8 and 6.4, struck on February 6th and February 20th, respectively, directly
impacting an estimated 26 million people across Türkiye and Syria, as reported
by the Red Cross.
Project Overview:
Date
of Initiative: February 8, 2023
Focus
Areas: The response efforts were concentrated on northeastern Syria,
covering Kobane and Manbij areas, as well as northern Syria, including al-Shahba,
Sheikh Maqsood, and surrounding regions.
First
Aid Provision:
The primary goal of the project was to deliver
immediate first aid response to the victims, addressing their urgent
medical needs in the aftermath of the earthquakes.
Basic
Needs Assistance: MHF aimed to provide essential humanitarian
assistance to alleviate the impact of the natural disaster, ensuring that
the basic needs of the affected individuals and communities were met.
Coordination and Sponsorship:
The
project was executed in close coordination with Haiva Sura Kurd,
leveraging joint resources and expertise to maximize the impact of the
humanitarian response.
Project Outcome:
A
total of 5,000 beneficiaries received support through this
initiative, offering critical aid to those grappling with the consequences
of the earthquakes.
This collaborative effort reflects MHF's commitment to swift
and effective response during crises, providing vital assistance to communities
facing adversity.
